Today’s Scripture: …lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Hebrews 12:15b

With winter comes the heating bill. It always seems to rise every year doesn’t it? It’s a high price to stay warm. Believe it or not, with some people it doesn’t matter how much money they spend to keep their house warm, they still manage to remain iced on the inside.

Often, believers put on a good show at church. They smile, greet people with a hug or handshake, and go on their merry way only to be filled on the inside with ice. Have you ever felt warm on the outside but ice cold on the inside?

We think about that comment our pastor made from the pulpit that offended us. We dwell on the broken friendship that we just can’t seem to mend or that teacher at the Christian school who hurt our child’s feelings. What was the message you just listened to about? Sometimes, we don’t even know because we were too busy building that castle of ice in our soul.

No furnace, no fireplace, and no hot chocolate can remove that from your heart – only God can. Believer, what’s keeping you warm this Christmas season? Is there some frosted fortress standing between you and the Lord or between you and your brothers and sisters in Christ? There is no better time than the present to thaw out that ice. If you have decided to remain bitter and unforgiving, your life will feel cold-because frozen is what you’ve chosen.
