Today’s Scripture: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11
Six-year-old Beth crumpled up another piece of paper. “Honey, what are you doing with all those papers?” asked her mother.
“I just drew on them,” answered Beth.
“I see that. But why are you crumpling them up?”
“The drawings are not very good, so I am just throwing them away.”
Often, we feel like Beth’s crumpled up pictures—like we are nothing more than “throw-aways” in God’s eyes. Whether we were mistreated as children or emotionally scarred as adults, the painful memories can cause us to dwell on thoughts like, “The Lord must have made a mistake when He made me,” or “God can’t possibly do anything with my life now. I’ve messed it up too many times.”
Believer, there are no throw-aways in God’s eyes. When He created us, He had a specific plan in mind. From the moment we were born to the present and its struggles, the Lord knows everything about our lives. He has thoughts of peace for us and an expected end. He can use us despite our past and help us through our present.
You were born into your family for a reason. You have been faced with particular trials for a special purpose. God makes no mistakes. He loved you enough to create you with a special plan. Rest in that promise right now.
