Today’s Scripture: Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord. PsalmĀ 107:43

Who doesn’t love a good game of hide and seek? Some children have the perspective that if they can’t see you, then you can’t see them. One parent told me that one of her children’s favorite places to hide was under the couch. She would simply dive under the couch so that her head and torso were hidden, but her legs and feet were obviously sticking out.How often are we like that child? We only see what is blatantly obvious. How often we are blind to what God has done and what God is doing in our lives. We forget Who He is, and His character is suddenly hidden from us.

I have always loved the hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy.” In that great hymn you will find the following truth:

Holy, Holy, Holy! Tho’ the darkness hide Thee.
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee:
Perfect in power, in love and purity.

Sometimes we don’t see God clearly, but He is not trying to hide from us. Even when we don’t see Him, He is still there working out His plan. As I was reading through Psalm 107, I was struck by how often the Lord helps us, forgives us, and allows difficulties into our lives to help us seek Him. The chorus repeats itself 4 times with “Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107 ends with, “Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.”

Graciously, God does not hide in very difficult places. Hopefully, you have a daily time when you seek the Lord. Be wise; observe the things God does in the lives of mankind. Seek His Word diligently for clues to His character. The most exciting part about seeking the Lord is that it is not simply a game, it is the building of your faith in God. The rewards are indescribable!
