Today’s Scripture: That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Colossians 1:10-11
Imagine a marksman with an injured arm. He has all the head knowledge to take a perfect shot with his bow and arrow. His eye is keen and his sense of direction is acute. However, he cannot make the shot because of his injury.
Next, think of a young amateur. His youthfulness provides him with strength. He is physically capable. Despite his strength, he is also unable to hit the target. He has no knowledge of how to even hold the bow.
Just as a marksman needs both strength and knowledge, the Lord tells us we need spiritual brains and brawn. We cannot be effective unless we have them both.
How do we acquire the two? We acquire knowledge by faithfully reading and studying God’s Word. We then find the strength we need by seeking the Lord in prayer, by being willing to follow His leading and by applying what we have learned.
Do you have what it takes to be right on target for the Lord? Perhaps you are a Bible college student with plenty of book learning, but you have yet to apply it to your life. Maybe you are an adult who is open to doing God’s will, but you have not yet studied His Word. Why not take a moment to determine where you can improve? When you develop both spiritual “brains and brawn,” you will surely hit the mark.
