Today’s Scripture: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Have you ever wished someone would just stop talking? I know you are most likely smiling, nodding your head, and saying “YES”. The time of which you are thinking may have been a time that you were hurting and someone had the nerve to quote this verse to you as if it would make all your pain go away. Instead, it just made you mad and you wanted to cause your friend some pain.

This verse isn’t a magic pill to make everything better, but it is an unshakeable truth. Those that are Christians that love God can bank on the fact that all things work together for good. This does not say that all things are good. Many times we try to figure out the good in any given situation and many times we either can’t figure it out or we make a guess. Of course, God in His omnipotence can miraculously cause good out of anything, and He often does.

However, most of the time this verse is talking about a different kind of good that is mentioned in verse 29 where it says that believers are “to be conformed to the image of His Son.” Can you think of a better good? There is nothing better for us than to be more like Jesus Christ.

God cares about your physical wellbeing and promises to take care of your needs. That being said, what do you think is more important, your physical or your spiritual wellbeing? Since living for eternity is what matters, we know the answer that God would give. This means that God is even more interested in our spiritual health than our physical, and He will use every situation to strengthen the most important part.

The next time something “bad” happens, whether it is something big or something like catching all the red lights, remember what good can come of it. Love God and let Him shape and mold you into a closer likeness of Jesus.
