Today’s Scripture: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew¬†6:20-21

Some people have very generic answers on their answering machines, while others say more than most would like to know. One answering machine answered missed calls as follows:

“Hi, this is Rick…if you are a bill collector, I already paid it. If you are my parents, please send money as quickly as possible. If you are my financial institution, you did not loan me nearly enough money. If you are one of my friends, you definitely owe me a lot of money-I’m positive. Last but not least, if you are a single female, I just want you to know I have tons of money and would love to spend it on you.”

If you were honest about your money, what would your answering machine say if God called you? Would it sound something like this: If you are God, my tithe is coming…eventually…after I stop running around like a chicken trying to pay for all my bills, and after I cover up all my gray hairs that are financially-stress related. If you are a believer, know this: You will never out-give God. Stop your worrying and excuses. Remind yourself, the most valuable thing we have is our salvation, and unlike money we are never in danger of losing that.

If you give, it shall be given unto you, pressed down and shaken together. It may not be easy, but be strong and of a good courage, God doesn’t need a back-up plan. You may be scared that if you give that money you need for other things, God won’t take care of you. Believer, there is joy in obeying before the blessings come. God goes before you; Christ is the greatest gift the world has ever known. If you want to change what you are getting, change how you are giving. You can give and not love, but you cannot love and not give. There’s no other way to success than giving. It’s time to change your answering machine.
