When Shelly hangs around people who aren’t Christians, she thinks about the Lord. When she is around fellow believers, she thinks about her worldly friends. Shelly has a classic case of lukewarmness. This deadly state occurs when believers fail to fully commit their lives to Christ.

God wants you to be on fire for Him. He wants you to be excited about Him. He wants you not to covet the things of the world.

The old adage, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence,” can be a metaphor for lukewarm believers. The worldly system is a trap which gets us every time we covet. Yet Satan has blinded our eyes so much that we continually long after that which does not satisfy.

Revelation 3:16 says, “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” Don’t put off serving Jesus! Don’t say, “I’ll serve Him when I retire, or when my kids get out of college, or when I make the last house payment.” Serve Him even as you plan for retirement. Volunteer to help in a ministry while you work to make that last house payment. Don’t put off serving Christ. Don’t be a lukewarm Christian. Give Him everything now.
