Today’s Scripture: And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. John 11:43-44

What was it that brought Lazarus from the dead? Did a good example bring him back to life-Jesus walking around the tomb and saying, “Lazarus, look at me, I’m a good example?” Did his environment bring Lazarus back from the dead? Remember that the first sinners were placed in the greatest environment there ever was, the Garden of Eden. Notice that God didn’t give Lazarus a book with twenty lessons on life. It wasn’t encouragement that raised him. Just what was it that raised this man from death? It was the Word. “Lazarus, come forth!”

All people need is the Word of God. That explains how someone could come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by listening to a one minute gospel presentation on a radio broadcast. There is power in the Word of God. In fact, God holds His Word above His own name. Too many people try to use alternative methods to lead people to the Lord when all they need is to hear the Word of God.

Jesus raised three people from the dead during His earthly ministry: a little girl who had just died, a young man who had been dead until rigor mortis set in, and Lazarus who had been dead until he smelled. Which one of these was the most dead? They were all equally dead.

So many people don’t realize that they are dead. Whether you are a prolific sinner or occasional sinner, you are a sinner in God’s eyes-dead and in need of a Savior. Are you still dead in your sins? Have you trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? If not, trust Him today and be made alive in Christ.
