Today’s Scripture: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:26‑27
Scripture clearly states that we are made in the image of God, but we don’t often stop to consider what that means. How are we like God? I came across the following that will help us understand how we are made in His image.
“Mentally, we have some aspect of His reasoning. When we make choices, we reflect His intellect and His freedom. We are unlike the animals because we are able to reason, deduce, theorize, and reach conclusions. We do not function on instinct alone as they do because we were created with a conscience. In this aspect, we were morally created like God. Anytime someone gets married or hugs a child, it demonstrates that we are made in the social image of God. We reflect His triune nature and love in the beauty of a family through a husband, wife, and children.”
Not only were we made in God’s image, but we were also given dominion over all the creatures on earth. However, in the process of the world trying to exalt mankind above God, the godless have brought mankind lower than the status of an animal. In fact, we kill our own young and no longer seem to know what gender we are. Today, most people are more concerned about saving an endangered species of owl or tree than they are about an unborn child. Sadly, we’ve made a mess out of all these things that God laid out so clearly. Look at the lack of distinction between male and female in today’s society. LGBTQ… I’m tired of all the alphabet letters! If you have a Y chromosome you are a male. We must keep these distinctions. We are to showcase the unity of the Trinity through marriage, so let’s put all those alphabet letters back where they belong!
The world will continue to try to sway us to their reasoning that we can be whatever gender we want to be and that it is no more wrong to kill an unborn child than it is to kill a bothersome mosquito. People will continue to march in the streets of our cities for causes that directly oppose what the Bible clearly teaches. We as believers need to exercise continued reliance on the Lord to give us the strength we need to stand for what is true and right. There is hope. There is an answer. It is found in the power of the gospel. All of this world’s problems can be overcome through faith in Jesus Christ. We need to reach these people, not agree with them. Let’s purpose to share the light of the gospel every chance we can!
