Can you walk with God and still be engaged in sin? Most Christians seem to be able to rationalize their behavior. But today’s simple verse in Amos gives us the real truth. This Old Testament prophet says that two cannot walk together unless they be agreed.

A.W. Tozer says this:

Let’s not make the mistake of thinking we can be spiritual and not be good. Let’s not make the mistake of thinking we can walk with the Holy Ghost and go a wrong or dirty or an unrighteous way, for how can two walk together except they be agreed?

Does it matter what we do on Monday through Friday? It is so easy to dress up for church and get into the worship service, and yet toss those Sunday values when we have to really live life at work, home, or school. But we can’t claim to walk with God unless we are obeying what He has said in His Word.

That’s why it is important for us to have a regular time of repentance and confession—to renew our relationship and align our hearts again with the Savior—every day. Sometimes we will fail and sin. But coming to Christ restores our relationship.

Pretending we are spiritual only alienates us further from our Lord. Believe it or not, Jesus really does care about the way we live.

How would you like to live with somebody who was everlastingly grieving your heart by his conduct? — G. Campbell Morgan
