Have you ever planted an acorn and found an oak tree in its place the next day? We all know it doesn’t quite work that way. On average, it takes from 6-18 months for the seeds to mature.

While we anticipate a prolonged growth period from plant life, it often comes as a shock to us when the development of God’s plan for our lives takes longer than a few moments. Can you imagine how Abraham must have felt following God to an unknown destination with unforeseen hazards and intangible benefits? It was many years before he saw God’s promised blessings. Still, he obeyed and took God at His Word.

Hebrews 11:1 shows us the essence of faith is earnest expectation. If we could see God’s blessings beforehand, we wouldn’t trust Him to supply them. We cannot plant seeds of obedience today and expect a harvest of blessings tomorrow. Like the developing acorn, it takes time for God to prepare us for what He would have us receive. But we can be sure His blessings will come at the perfect time.

Our greatest, yet most rewarding, challenge is waiting upon God. This is the realm where faith operates. It is called to action when you are at your wit’s end in the pursuit of employment. It is summoned when the uncertainty of your future tempts you to respond in fear and frustration. In the dark realm of wait, God whispers, “Trust.” Will you obey His voice?

Moment by moment I’m kept in His love,
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.
