Did you ever stop and think about how vulnerable we are? Every time we start our cars, drive through an intersection, fly in an airplane, or use an elevator, we are putting faith in people. We trust internal combustion within our vehicles’ engines will occur at precise, pre-programmed intervals to supply power for our journey. We put confidence in a civil engineer’s ability to accurately program traffic lights to switch from green, to yellow, to red. And we trust other drivers to give us the right of way when we get a green light.

But all men are imperfect sinners, prone to error. We’ve all seen cars break down and traffic lights malfunction. Every day we witness drivers running through red lights, putting others’ lives in peril. Yet we continue driving. We are people of great faith.

However, our faith has no merit unless its object is reliable. Man and his technology will fail us. We will fail others. But our faith is secure in Jesus Christ. He never fails. Every word He has promised is true. He alone is worthy of our full confidence.

Are you discouraged today because you’ve been disillusioned about the reliability of people? People will disappoint us because they cannot always meet our expectations—certainly no better than we can meet theirs. Commit the matter to your Savior today. Your faith is safe in Him.

Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God Whose ways you may not understand at the time. — Oswald Chambers
