Have you ever been in a three-legged race with a shorter person? It is difficult to keep in step with them. In fact, you might even fall a few times until you perfect your timing. In this race, the advantage belongs to the players who partner with people who match their height and ability.

Soul-winning requires the same team effort of a three-legged race. We need not worry about falling because our partner is underqualified, for we have the Holy Spirit on our team. He does not partner with us as our Equal, but as our Superior. Through His divine power, He equips and enables us to share the gospel with the lost. As He leads, it pays to keep in step with Him.

How do we keep in step with the Holy Spirit as we share our faith? We have to trust and obey Him. Trusting Him means we have to understand that our strength is not only insufficient, but completely unnecessary, as He works in the hearts of the lost. Through faith we believe the gospel, coupled with the Holy Spirit’s convicting work — not our methods — has the power to convert sinners. Obeying the Holy Spirit means we need to say yes when He leads us to share Christ with others.

You are assured of success in your efforts to win the lost, because you have the Holy Spirit for a running mate. But He will not convert the lost on His own — you must open your mouth and share the gospel. He will give you strength and courage at the precise moment you need it. The Holy Spirit is a Winner. Keep in step with Him, and He can make you a winner, too.

There is not a better evangelist in the world than the Holy Spirit. — D. L. Moody
