How big is your God? Three boys at school were bragging about how powerful their fathers were. The first boy said, “My dad scribbles a few words on a sheet of paper, calls it a poem, and they give him $100 for it.”

The second boy said, “That’s nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on a sheet of paper, calls it a song, and they give him $1,000 for it.”

The third boy said, “My dad does better than that. He scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, calls it a sermon, and it takes six men just to collect all of the money!”

These kids had a great view of their fathers, but many Christians fail to recognize the greatness of their Heavenly Father. We see God as the Creator of the Universe who spoke it all into being, but somehow we can’t make the connection to our own lives. We believe God parted the Red Sea so Israel could walk safely on dry land, but we cannot trust Him to make a way for us to get through our problems. We admire the wisdom of God in the beauty and order of Creation, but we don’t believe He is smart enough to direct our relationships and future. The problem is not that our God is too small, but that our view of Him is too small. As we learn more about who God is, our faith will grow and we will have a greater ability to endure the difficulties we face in life.

Are you struggling to trust God with a certain part of your life? Maybe you have been worrying about a relationship. A situation at work has made you frustrated. You are angry because you can’t sell your house. You are disappointed at yourself because you have not used wisdom in some important decisions. God is big enough to help you. Read His Word and remind yourself who He is, and He will show you His power in a very real way.
