Today’s Scripture: But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:4-5

The largest gold nugget currently in existence today is the world-famous Hand of Faith Nugget, weighing in at 875 Troy ounces. It was unearthed in the spring of 1980 in Wedderburn, Victoria, Australia by Kevin Hillier. He discovered it using a metal detector, and rumor has it that he almost didn’t dig for it because he thought his detector was acting up.

While this gold nugget is valued at over one million dollars, there is a hand of faith that is much more valuable. It is the empty hand of faith. It is the hand with nothing in it, reaching out to God for salvation. It is literally saying “I don’t have anything at all, please save me.” As the famous hymn “Rock of Ages” states, “Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Your cross I cling.”

The real hand of faith is belief only – the empty hand of faith. We are saved apart from ritualism or works. Adding any condition, moralism, or ritualism is adding to the Gospel and is not the Gospel.

The pure, clear Gospel of grace is much more precious and valuable than any gold nugget. Do you value the clear Gospel? Are you careful to not add any kind of works or conditions to the finished work of Christ? If you are uncertain about sharing the Gospel, let me encourage you to get our book Evangelism Made Simple. It will help equip you to share the message that is more precious than gold.
