William was a man with a vision. Though his present station was that of a humble cobbler, he kept a homemade paper and leather map on his workshop wall to remind himself of the distant lands where he believed God had called him to travel.

Through William’s study of God’s Word, he saw the magnificence of Jesus Christ and felt burdened to take Christ’s message to the farthest corners of the world. On May 31st, 1792, William preached a sermon which stirred to action the hearts of the delegates of the North Hamptonshire Baptist Association. The delegates formed a missionary society and named William their first missionary.

William went to India, started a factory, learned 12 languages, built the finest college in the country, became a professor in Bengalian Sanskrit, preached throughout the length and breadth of the subcontinent, and brought Western missionaries to help him reach the heart of India with the gospel. That’s an incredible story about an incredible man. Do you want to know his full name? It’s William Carey. He is known as the Father of Modern Missions.

Honest, earnest study of God’s Word will change your life. Consider the testimonies of men such as David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. They had a burden for the things of God and His people. The Word of God motivated them to proclaim His goodness and glory to the whole world through their writings.

How far can you see? Has your Bible study driven you to reach the lost around you? People are desperate for truth in a world of lies and deception. Don’t let them wait any longer to hear the gospel.

The gospel is open to all; the most respectable sinner has no more claim on it than the worst. — D.Martyn Lloyd-Jones
