It’s got to be the worst feeling in the world when you have a bill and can’t pay it. I remember a time when my wife and I needed $400 to pay our bills. There was no way we could make the payments. Somehow, someone sent us exactly $400. Coincidence? I think not. Jehovah-Jireh came through for us again.

Abraham was the first to use the name Jehovah-Jireh, which means God will see to it (Genesis 22:14). He was in a tough spot when God asked him to offer his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice. He had waited 25 years for God to provide this son, and now God wanted him to take the boy’s life. But just as Abraham was about to plunge his knife into Isaac’s chest, God stopped him. Abraham looked around and saw a ram caught by its horns in the bushes nearby. He offered it as a sacrifice in Isaac’s place. God had provided.

Sometimes we think we can’t make it because of our limited resources. We get discouraged and fearful because we can’t figure out how we’re going to get through our hardships. The rent is due. The kids in college need money. The car breaks down. There’s an unexpected medical emergency. How do we find peace? It can only be found in Jehovah-Jireh. He will provide for our needs.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. — David, Psalms 23:2-3
