Men are not flattered by being shown that there has been a difference of purpose between the Almighty and them. To deny it, however, in this case, is to deny that there is a God governing the world. — Abraham Lincoln

What makes a swimming pool more inviting than a lake during the summer? Is the ability to control the temperature settings a selling point? Or is it the absence of fish and leeches? I believe the answer is simply that we can see the bottom. As human beings, we rely more heavily upon sight than we think.

We gravitate toward those things we can see. We pursue employment that appears promising for our family and our financial needs. We purchase a car because it looks like it will meet our transportation or performance needs. This is why it’s so difficult to comprehend a free gospel of grace through faith in an invisible God. We can’t see the “bottom,” the Object of our faith. The offer seems too good to be true.

Do you know a friend, neighbor, or relative who won’t accept the gospel? Truth convicts. God wants us to take the gospel light to a spiritually-blinded world. We need to persuade them that God really can shed new light on their lives. Be persistent and prayerful. The Almighty wants all men to see the Light and be saved.

An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it. — James A. Michener
