Do you think you can run from God? Go ahead and try it, and see how far you get. You may run, but you can’t hide. I’ll even prove it to you. You remember Adam and Eve? They thought they could get away with their disobedience. They ate the forbidden fruit, ran the opposite direction (as if God wasn’t watching), and froze in their tracks when they discovered there was nowhere to hide. They couldn’t escape the presence of God, and neither can we.

The eyes of Christ are like a flame of fire, penetrating to the very core of our being. He knows everything about us—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Someone put it this way:

There is nothing more piercing than flaming fire. Everything yields and melts before it. It penetrates all things, consumes every opposition, sweeps down all obstructions, and presses its way with invincible power—and of this sort are the eyes of Jesus. They look through everything. They pierce through all masks and coverings. They search the remotest recesses. They behold the most hidden things of the soul, and there is no escape from the eyes of Jesus.

What kind of life are you living today? Is there something secret you think you can hide from Christ’s penetrating gaze? Perhaps you have a secret addiction to pornography which you’re trying to hide from your family. If you think you can get away with your sin, think again. You can either wait until Christ brings your sin to light, or you can confess it now and experience restoration. There’s nowhere to hide—live so you have nothing to hide today.

I can offer no worship wholly pleasing to God if I know that I am harboring elements in my life that are displeasing to Him. I cannot truly and joyfully worship God on Sunday and not worship Him on Monday. — A.W. Tozer
