How much does God need us? While we were waiting for a permit to begin our church’s biggest building project, my young granddaughters went with me on a trip to Israel. My oldest granddaughter, Amy, told me in absolute faith, “When we get back, the building will be built.” She believed God would actually build the building for us.

Unfortunately, when we returned from Israel, the building had not been built. We still had to wait for the building permit. We would definitely need God to work out all the details so we could get the building started and completed.

Sure enough, God allowed our church members to finish the massive building project. 15 years later, I’m still amazed at what God’s given us. But some people are quick to remind me that God built the building, not our people. I think they say this so we don’t get too proud of the accomplishment.

While it’s true that God built the building, He used our people to do the work. I’m certain that He wouldn’t have built our building without our efforts. God can do anything, but He chooses to work through people like you and me. We have the privilege of working with Him in a partnership.

There is a great work God wants to do in this world, and He wants to use us to carry it out. He provides the strength, wisdom, and grace to do the job — we just have to get to work. Ask God to give you a burden to do something great for Him, and start working towards seeing it accomplished. He’ll give you the grace you need to work from start to finish.
