Few cartoon characters are as adorable as Winnie the Pooh. Disney’s popular golden bear has won the hearts of millions since the production of his very first children’s video. The Winnie the Pooh series teaches children the importance of friendship, but it also has some lessons for adults.
In one scene from the video series, Pooh Bear is on his way down the stairs when he bumps his head and falls to the bottom of the stairway. The next time Pooh heads downstairs, the same thing happens. Every time he tries to go down the stairs, he runs (or falls) into the same problem. He was never able to get out of this rut.
Many people are the same way with their besetting sins. They sin, and then go to God for forgiveness. He forgives them. Then they go back and commit the same sin all over again. The cycle continues until they finally give up and indulge in their sin because they don’t see themselves ever breaking free.
God has given every Christian a way of escape from temptation and sin, and it is found in His Word. When we find a verse which helps us deal with a sin we are struggling with, we should write it down, mark it in our Bibles, and/or commit it to memory. The next time we go down “the stairs,” this will keep us from stumbling.
Everyone has a “Mr. Sin” which easily drags them down. The question is, what are you doing to fight it? You know the pain and emptiness which comes with lust, bitterness, slander, gossip, pride, covetousness, and the specific sins which are tempting you today. Take care going down the stairs, and you will avoid a painful fall.
