Today’s Scripture: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs¬†3:5-6

Imagine you are going to trek through the Amazon rainforest. As you plan your trip, you come to an important decision – who should you hire for your guide? As you continue your research, you find several people who have made the trip before. They tell you of a place to find a guide at the edge of the rainforest. When you arrive there are two guides available. The first guide has grown up in the area and has led many successful journeys through the rainforest. The second guide has done much study of the land, animals, and plants, and has made several successful attempts but has also gotten lost and had to be rescued by the first guide before. Your other option is to go out alone without a guide and trust your instincts and gut in order to survive. Wouldn’t you want the one who knows the rainforest the best and has made the trip before? Wouldn’t you want the best?

However, we sometimes refuse to follow the one who can best guide us through life. God has given us His Word to show us the right way to live.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.” What does this mean? It means, trust in the Lord and don’t trust in anything else. Don’t save a little bit of trust in case God is wrong. God is deserving of our trust. He is the one who created the world, the one who knows everything, the one who is in control of the universe. Don’t you think we can trust Him to show us the right way? We need to put all of our eggs into His basket.

We are not to trust our own understanding because we don’t know the whole picture. One path might look better to us, but it might lead to a dead end or cliff where we could fall. If we acknowledge that He knows best, we will follow where He directs. We don’t have the answers for every problem that will arise, but God does. We need to allow God’s Word to be our guide. God’s Word is called “a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105) God has given it to lead us into “paths of righteousness.”

Let’s trust God to lead us where and how He wants. Sometimes things don’t make sense to us. Don’t hold back – put all your eggs in His basket and know that He will take care of the rest.
