Today’s Scripture: The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Proverbs¬†18:10

Our God is frequently described as a refuge throughout Scripture. He is referenced as a fortress, a high and strong tower, a shield, a refuge, a rock, a buckler, our salvation, our defense, and much more. Why is this theme so common in God’s Word? It is because we often need a reminder that God is there for us and will protect us.

Many of these occurrences are found in the Psalms as David was running from King Saul. David, though running for his life, realized that his protection came only from the Lord. No matter the circumstances we face, God is there for us.

We face many difficult situations each and every day-sometimes, it seems like they never stop. But no matter how big the trials are, our God is on our side. When things seem the worst, we can turn to Him. He knows what we are going through, and He knows why. We can take comfort in knowing that He is in control.

Just as we turn to the Lord for help in our earthly lives, we need to turn to Him in our spiritual lives as well. God is a refuge for us in the battles we face as Christians. The devil is constantly “seeking whom he may devour”, but we have a deliverer. We will fall when we try to face temptation on our own, but if we run to God when we are tempted, we will be safe.

Whatever you are facing today, remember, our God is a refuge for us. Seek him, and you will be safe. The battle may still be raging, but you can have peace knowing that He is our defense and He will deliver you.
