Today’s Scripture: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

The Book of Proverbs is well known for the wisdom it contains. It is the testimony to the success of King Solomon’s wisdom. Lesser known, however, is Ecclesiastes – the testimony to Solomon’s foolishness.

When God gave him the choice of asking for anything he wanted, Solomon only asked for wisdom in ruling the people, not in the other areas of his life. People would come from all over the world to tap into his political wisdom, but apparently, he didn’t have that wisdom across the board in his life.

As a very wealthy king, Solomon searched for happiness in several areas of life. He experimented with many things including music, possessions, mirth, wives, military strength, and palaces.

The conclusion of all these experiments is that they don’t provide lasting success or happiness. Solomon learned that the most important thing in life is to fear God and keep His commandments.

How about you? Are you searching for happiness in the things of this world? Things of this world, such as friends, money, careers? Let the words of Solomon in today’s Scripture help change your focus. Learn from Solomon’s life so you don’t have to learn on your own.
