How many stories do you have of the times God has provided just what you needed—no more, no less? Looking back over 40 years of ministry, I cherish many experiences from the early days. I can still remember the time we moved into a dingy apartment in a bad part of Chicago. We had little money and two babies in diapers. We had decided early on that we would always pay our bills, even if we had to starve. It sounds cruel, but we never had to starve, because God always provided a way.

I remember a particular time when we were at the end of our rope. We used all of our money, but there was one bill left. It was something like $200. Sure enough, after prayer and feeble faith, a check arrived in the mail from a friend who felt that the Lord had laid upon him the need to help us out. We hadn’t solicited help. We hadn’t even talked to this person in several years.

That’s how God is. He provides just what we need when we need it. It could be something tangible like a car, a bit of money, or a house, or it could be something spiritual like a particular word of encouragement from a friend or a timely verse that speaks to a troubled heart.

We can trust God because He knows our needs, even better than we do. And He’s always on time—never late, never early. Today, think about your own stories of how God has provided just what you needed in the nick of time.

The God Who knows our needs better than we know them, provides for us in exactly the right moment in which we are in need. — Unknown Author
