Do you remember when you trusted Christ as your Savior? Don’t you wish the Heavenly Express could have ushered you up to Glory on the spot? This line of reasoning sounds great until we consider we might not have trusted Christ if someone never shared the gospel with us. Sure, anyone can get saved by reading God’s Word, but the message cannot travel without legs to carry it and mouths to preach it.

On second thought, maybe it’s not such a bad idea that God chose to leave us here.

Therefore, we must live among those who populate our world. We have to experience the effects of sin on our bodies, our possessions, and in our relationships. We’ll be hurt, mistreated, misunderstood, and misjudged. Where does Heaven fit in here on Earth?

God has saved us that we might be His witnesses in the world. Salvation doesn’t change our circumstances, but it provides an eternal hope which carries us through them. Love for our Savior motivates us to press on.

You may have learned of a malignancy recently. You might not have enough money to pay the rent this month. Remind yourself of the blessed hope of Heaven, and you will have joy.

We must not be so lost in the work of the earth that we shall not be inspired by the hope of Heaven. — Phillips Brooks
