Today’s Scripture: And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. GenesisĀ 45:7

As we looked at Joseph’s life, we saw him go from beloved son to being sold into slavery, accused of adultery, and cast into prison. God was using these incredible circumstances to illustrate how He would provide salvation for us.

The disciples didn’t understand when Christ told them He was going to die. It didn’t make sense; this was the Messiah who would come to rule on David’s throne. When He was taken to the cross and crucified, all hope seemed to disappear. If we saw Christ on the cross or Joseph in prison, we wouldn’t imagine how God would use those situations to save His children.

We then see both Joseph and Jesus were elevated to provide salvation after dealing with impossible situations. Joseph was able to interpret Pharaoh’s dream and warn of the famine – something humanly impossible, while Christ provided a payment for our sin – something only God could do. Both were taken from the depths of the earth and placed in authority – Joseph from the dungeon and Christ from the grave. Joseph was raised to second in the kingdom, and Christ ascended into Heaven at the right hand of the Father.

God had used Joseph to illustrate the place of honor Christ had in Heaven before coming to Earth, being despised by the ones He had come to save, taking on the sin of the world, rising again to provide salvation, and given dominion over the world. Christ came knowing what He would have to give up in Heaven and what he would have to go through on Earth in order to save you. Thank Him for what He did for you today.
