Today’s Scripture: Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. PsalmĀ 42:5

The runner gasped for breath. His body struggled down the road as he tried to finish the marathon. It was so much longer than any race he had done before. He had trained well, but would it be enough? He felt like quitting as he slowly made his way up a slight hill that to him, seemed to be growing with each step he took. Just as he felt he had given his all and couldn’t go any further, a runner came up from behind and told him the end was just after the hill. As he reached the top of the hill, he looked out and saw the finish line just beyond the bottom of the hill. Knowing the end was near, he mustered up everything he could to finish the race.

You may feel like the runner – tired, discouraged, doing your best but not sure you can make it to the end. The problems you are facing have lasted so long. You feel you can’t make it any longer and just want to give up. You desperately need hope but you see no end in sight. This is when we need to remember that God is still there. Though all else fails, He never will.

When everything is beyond your control and you’re just hanging on for dear life, God is still in control. When you are discouraged, His presence can give you hope to make it through. God hasn’t forgotten about you – He will help you and give you the strength you need to finish the race.
