Today’s Scripture: Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. LukeĀ 5:4-7

Several years ago, my son, son-in-law, daughter, and I fished off the coast of Florida. I was astonished when a fish bit as soon as I let down my line. Pulling it in was a struggle, but then I noticed that everyone on the boat was pulling in a fish. I had never caught so many fish as I caught that day! In fact, none of us had. After a while, my arms got tired, and we had to rest before we could catch more.

Imagine the disciple’s surprise when the net they let down couldn’t hold the fish they caught. Jesus told them to let down their “nets,” but they only let down one net. If they had let down all of their nets, the boat would have been more balanced and wouldn’t have started to sink. They thought they would humor Jesus by obeying Him – but not all the way. The Lord must have smiled from shore as He watched His disciples. Simple obedience would have made the whole situation easier for his followers.

In just one moment, the Creator of the Universe gave them more fish than they would need. God cares for you just as He cared for the disciples. Is there some area of your life that you need to surrender completely to the Lord? Don’t hold anything back. When you completely give of yourself to the Lord, you are only opening yourself up to His full blessing.
