|Today’s Scripture: Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. James 5:8|
Why is your heart so integral to your Christian life? After all, only God can see it. So, even if there are things there that should not be, aren’t they protected by whatever you allow others to see? Isn’t the heart both physically and spiritually within your control?
The trouble lies within the power the heart possesses over you as a person. God’s Word states, “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” All of those hidden thoughts, emotions, and desires become you. The heart is the place where depravity can abide and then defile every circuit. Think about what happens when you have an infection in your blood…the heart pumps it all over your body. The spiritual heart does the same thing with sin.
“The New Testament teaches that no man or woman is safe apart from Jesus Christ because there is treachery on the inside….Never trust your common sense when the statements of Jesus contradict it…. Never take yourself to be good. Natural goodness will always break, always disappoint, why? Because the Bible tells us that “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”” – Oswald Chambers
The answer to every spiritual heart problem we experience is Christ. Allowing God to change your heart, filling it with His Word, the correct perspective, motives and godly counsel will change your life. “The true nature of a man’s heart according to the Bible is that expectation and hope. It is the heart that is strengthened by God (Psalm 73:26), and Jesus Christ said that he came to “bind up the broken hearted.” The marvel of the indwelling spirit of God is that He can give heart to a despairing man.” – Oswald Chambers
Although it is susceptible to great temptation and destruction, the heart is also a place capable of much good. It is where spiritual vitality can be spread throughout the personality. Whether it be good or bad, your body will follow what your heart dictates. Your decision-making, actions, reactions, and emotions depend on what you decide to allow into your heart today.
