Today’s Scripture: But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is┬áthis day, to save much people alive. Genesis 50:20

There was a king that went off to war. The king always had a man by his side that could find good in any situation. One day at war the king was shot in the thumb, and he lost his thumb. The man by his side said his phrase that he always said. “This is good!”

The king was furious with the man and said, “This is not good! I lost my thumb!” Then the king had the man thrown in prison. Years later, the king was on a voyage and got caught by a bunch of cannibals. When he was captured, the cannibals saw he was missing his thumb. Being superstitious, the cannibals would not eat anyone that wasn’t whole. The king was set free.

When the king returned home, he released the man that always said, “This is good!”, and apologized for putting him in prison

He said, “I didn’t know how losing my thumb could be good, but surely I would be dead right now if I hadn’t lost my thumb. Now I had you in prison for years for no reason.”

The man replied, “This is good!”

The king said, “No, no! This is not good; you were in prison for years.”

The man answered, “If you hadn’t put me in jail, I would have been with you!”

Are we like that man? Do we look for good in every difficult thing? No, we don’t know the future, but we can trust God that He is powerful enough to work everything for good. We can be optimistic knowing we serve an All-powerful God, Who does know the future, and He has told us to trust Him.
