Today’s Scripture: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.… And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:7, 11

There are countless examples of God going way out of His way to prove to us that salvation is permanent. This is one of those examples. A few verses later, 1 John 5:13 says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” This is one of the “things” he wrote so we could know we have eternal life.

1 John 5:7 says there are three in heaven which are one: the Father, the Word, and the Spirit. If you remember from John 1, the Word was made flesh. Christ is the Word. All three Persons of the Trinity are in Heaven. What are They doing? They are bearing witness in Heaven.

Of what are They bearing witness? They are declaring that we have already been given eternal life through the Son! Notice that there are three in Heaven. In the Mosaic Law, there had to be two or three witnesses in a court case, or else the witness wouldn’t count. Even if you don’t count Christ’s witness because They are bearing witness of His work, then you still have two witnesses. They have “two or three witnesses” and, therefore, it is true. God has given you eternal life if you have believed!

He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. (1 John 5:10)
