Today’s Scripture: Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath obtained a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews 1:4

Angels, as great as they are, are no comparison with Jesus. None, whatsoever! There has never been a more important person in history than Jesus Christ. No one has ever influenced the world more than Jesus Christ. No one has ever changed people’s lives more than Jesus of Nazareth. In 1 Timothy 2:5 we see “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Do you get it? There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, not the Virgin Mary, not the angels. The prophets may have been great, but they could not compare to Him.

When Peter was up on the Mount of Transfiguration, he said, “Let us make one for Elijah, one for Moses, and one for You.” What an incredibly ignorant statement, because nobody compares to Jesus! Nobody.

Christ possesses a more excellent name than the angels. When He was manifested in the flesh, He became a man, and as a man, He was always greater than the angels.

Now, angels are much more powerful than us. Remember the angel with Balaam or the one that made it so Zacharias couldn’t speak until after John the Baptist was born? One angel could kill an army by himself. Angels don’t understand what it is like to be tempted. They don’t know what it’s like to be sick. They can’t comprehend what it is like to lose somebody they love. They don’t have sympathy or compassion like that, but Jesus does. This is confirmed in Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus knows, not only because He loves people, but He also suffered more than any person has ever suffered. Not only does Jesus understand, but He also cares. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.”

Have you thought of what a privilege it is to have a Mediator who is not only infinitely more powerful than the angels, but also cares personally about the current situation you’re experiencing? Whatever you’re going through, remember that “He careth for you”!
