Today’s Scripture: Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Matthew¬†9:37-38

A young man on our staff was working out at the gym one evening when a middle-aged gentleman collapsed on the floor of the fitness center. The gym staff quickly rushed to the man and an off-duty paramedic administered CPR, saving the man’s life. The local emergency rescue team arrived and rushed him to the hospital.

Many patrons stopped exercising and watched the entire ordeal, but a few continued walking on the treadmills. They wore headsets and were oblivious to the fight for life going on a few feet away.

The witness said later, “What I saw was a picture of how Christians sometimes treat the gospel. People are dying without the gospel every day, plunging into eternal torment, and many of us are oblivious, running on our treadmills, pedaling on our bikes, improving our lives. Either by ignorance or by choice, we turn a blind eye to the souls who need to hear of the Savior.”

Maybe you’ve been putting off talking to the receptionist at your doctor’s office. Ask God to give you an opportunity to invite her out to church. Perhaps a friend is about to lose her job and her hope. Why don’t you take her out to lunch and give her the hope of eternal life? I encourage you to take off those headphones and get off the treadmill of excuses.
