Today’s Scripture: And, behold, Icomequickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Revelation¬†22:12

Sam leapt up from the couch with a start as his parents’ car pulled into the driveway-two hours early! Having been given a list of chores to do while his parents were out, he figured he had all day to do them. Now, it was too late. Quickly surveying the room, Sam grabbed the pillows and straightened out the couch. He tossed the empty bags of chips he was munching on into the trash. As his mom and dad walked in, he was plugging in the vacuum.

Seeing the room in nearly the same condition as when she left, Sam’s mom asked what he got done. Sam looked at the floor. Regretfully, Sam admitted that he had just wasted the day watching TV. The disappointment in his mom’s face more than Sam could bear, and he promised himself to do his chores right away next time.

Like Sam, we have been given a job to do and don’t know how long we have. However, we won’t be given a second chance. There will be no warning or time to clean up when Jesus comes. We will immediately be with Him in Heaven and have to give account of our lives. What an awful thing it would be if we looked at Him in shame with nothing to show for our lives.

Friend, we don’t know how long we have; Christ could return today. Let’s make sure we are ready.
