Today’s Scripture: For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 1 Corinthians 12:8‑11
When you see a boy flying a kite, do you ever consider who or what is flying the kite? Is it the boy, the string, the stick, the tail, the sail, or the wind? Who is flying the kite? Can you imagine trying to fly a kite while missing one of the key parts or having a complete kite flying without having someone to hold the string?
The same way that we need every part of the kite for it to fly, the Body of Christ needs every person to do their share to work most efficiently. God has gifted every believer with at least one spiritual gift. He gifts us as He sees fit to do the work which needs to get done.
If you don’t know what your spiritual gift is, you don’t need to take a survey or read books about the subject. Just get plugged in at your local church. That is one of the key reasons for a local church. When you say, “Here I am, what would you like me to do?” you are making yourself available for God’s work. As you work, others will notice what you do well and will put you in a position where you can use your gifts.
While referring to the Body of Christ as a kite, who is flying the kite? Well, if you notice every time the Spirit is referred to in today’s scripture, it becomes clear that God is flying the kite. However, He has chosen to use you. Be available and God will use your gifts. If you’re not available, it just won’t fly the same.
