Today’s Scripture: For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:7‑8

When my daughters were young, we brought them to the doctor’s office to get their vaccination shots. These shots would allow them to avoid really bad things that could kill them in the future. While we were at the doctor’s office, they stuck my daughters with a big needle. The kids were not happy. I saw the bigger picture, but they had no idea what was going on. All they knew was that it hurt. I knew that the little bit of pain then would protect them from a whole lot of pain later. I allowed that pain in my daughters’ lives because I love them.

I don’t know why God allows certain bad things into our lives, but I just want to remind you that we don’t always see the big picture. I can also promise you that no matter what comes our way, we should never doubt God’s love. God proved His love when He sent His Son to die in our place.

As a father, it is in the realm of possibility that I might allow my child to die for a good man. However, there is no way at all that I would allow my child to die for a convicted criminal.  That is what God did for us; we were enemies of God, and still He died in our place.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
