Today’s Scripture: And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. Matthew 2:12
In Matthew 2, we read the story of the wise men. They traveled a great distance to see the Messiah Who was born in Israel. They knew He had come because the star had appeared. Arriving at Jerusalem, the wise men found out they had to travel to Bethlehem.
Herod, the king, was greatly troubled when he heard of another king being born. He told the wise men to come back and tell him where he could find this baby so he could worship Him. Herod’s true intention, however, was to kill the baby Jesus before he became a threat to Herod’s kingdom.
The wise men went to Bethlehem and worshiped Jesus, presenting gifts to him. After they had visited the Messiah, they were warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod. They left to journey back home in a different direction. They didn’t ask why; they weren’t so stubborn that nobody could change their plans; they simply went “another way.”
When life gives you an abrupt turn, do you do everything in your power to return things to the “good old days”? Are you so stubborn that you “would never do that”? Are you stuck in the “we’ve never done it like that before” stage?
God wants Christians to be flexible. The wise men changed their plans in a hurry when God instructed them to do so. Being flexible is part of being wise. Will you be a wise man/woman? Be flexible.
