Today’s Scripture: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5

The music filled the room. As the orchestra finished, the crowd erupted in applause. Although many instruments were used in the performance, it was the musicians who rightly deserved the credit. The instruments were used to produce the music, but they were unable to produce any sound on their own. In that regard, we are like those instruments.

Without Christ, we can do nothing, but He can do incredible things through us if we submit to Him. He is the Musician Who deserves all the credit. We are merely tools in His hands used to convey His message. He wants to use us to tell the world of His love and offer of salvation.

This illustration also shows the different ways in which God uses us at different times. We may work in the background while others take center stage or work together to create a beautiful harmony. Occasionally, His plan for us may be at the forefront, or He may give us a quick rest before our next responsibility.

However, we must remember that all instruments are not equal. There is an incredible difference between a cheap violin readily available at a music store and a Stradivarius. The music can be played by either, but the sound of one is much more pleasing. God wants to do incredible things through us, so let’s purpose to be the best instruments we can be in order to bring Him the greatest honor.
